Every day across Western Australia, thousands of children and young people are unable to live safely at home. Many have experienced trauma, neglect, family and domestic violence, and significant disruption to their lives.
When children enter care, it often happens suddenly, with little time to gather their belongings or prepare for what comes next. For many children, a Variety Sunshine Pack is one of the first things they receive.
Packaged with care by our volunteers, each Variety Sunshine Pack contains essential items such as a backpack, clothing, toiletries, comfort items, books and age-appropriate resources. More than just practical support, a Variety Sunshine Pack sends a powerful message to a child at a difficult time:
You matter. You are valued. You are not alone.
When a foster carer receives a call asking them to welcome children into their home that same day, there is often little time to prepare. Children may arrive frightened, overwhelmed and with no personal belongings. While carers are focused on providing safety, reassurance and stability, they can suddenly find themselves needing everything from toothbrushes and pyjamas to books, toys and school supplies.
